AttackDefendTM
for the Criminal Justice Sector

Uncompromising Security. Psychological Comfort. Functional Continuity.

Robust Life-Safety Protection Through Non-Punitive, Human-Centered Design

The design of justice facilities is undergoing a fundamental transformation from punitive confinement to environments that support rehabilitation and safety. By utilizing McGrory’s AttackDefendTM glazing, modern justice facilities can move away from the “architecture of fear”—characterized by bars and heavy steel grates—toward a human-centered design (HCD) model. This strategy ensures the highest levels of containment while prioritizing the psychological health and dignity of both residents and staff.

AttackDefendTM by McGrory Glass is specifically engineered for the high-security demands of the criminal justice and detention sectors, where it is utilized to facilitate a shift toward dignity-centered design. Primary usage cases include cell windows, dayroom partitions, courtrooms, and visitation galleries, where maintaining clear sight lines is essential for both safety and the transformation of the environment. By replacing traditional steel bars and small apertures with expansive, attack-resistant glazing, facilities can introduce natural light and biophilic views into high-security zones. This usage is foundational to creating a normalized environment that supports rehabilitation and reduces the psychological “closed-in” feeling for both justice-involved individuals and staff.

The material composition of AttackDefendTM consists of advanced multi-ply glass-clad polycarbonate (GCP), meticulously layered to provide extreme resistance against sustained physical assault and forced-entry. Tested to meet and exceed ASTM F1233 and ASTM F1915 grade standards, these units are designed to withstand a “forced-exit” or “forced-entry” attempt for 10 to 60 minutes using heavy-duty tools. A key benefit of this construction is its non-spall performance, ensuring that the interior side remains free of glass fragments during an attack to prevent secondary trauma. Additionally, the modernized assembly provides superior acoustic dampening (STC ratings of 38-42) creating a calming and holistic security solution that prioritizes the long-term wellness and dignity of all occupants.
