DCPS Truesdell Elementary School Modernization

DefendEd™ security glazing with decorative gradient fades by McGrory Glass for Truesdell Elementary School. Designed by VMDO Architects. Features Solarban® low-e coatings.

Overview

Truesdell Elementary School in Washington, DC, features a modernization by VMDO Architects that unifies historic 1920s buildings with high-performance new additions. McGrory Glass provided DefendEd™ security glazing integrated with Solarban® low-e coatings to ensure a match with standard insulated glass units. This technical approach allows for a visual transition between security zones and community spaces, maintaining the building’s aesthetic integrity while providing proactive life-safety protection. Several security panels feature custom decorative gradient fades to enhance occupant comfort and privacy. This project highlights the skilled fabrication and extensive production capabilities required to integrate life-safety security products into a modern learning environment. All solutions were fabricated in-house at our 250,000-square-foot facility, ensuring quality control and system integration for this specialized school campus.
